A three-vehicle collision in Pulaski County Wednesday afternoon claimed the life of a retired Pulaski County judge.
Kentucky State Police say the collision claimed the life of 82-year-old Walter F. Maguire of Somerset. Maguire was a district judge for more than 22 years and also served as family court judge for Pulaski, Rockcastle, and Lincoln counties.
State Police say Maguire was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado and attempted to pull onto KY 80 from KY 1003 in the Shopville community when he entered the path of oncoming traffic.
Maguire’s vehicle was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on KY 80, operated by 45-year-old Mathew Collett of Manchester. The impact pushed Maguire’s vehicle off the westbound shoulder.
The Silverado then collided with a 2024 Chevrolet Trax, operated by 30-year-old Michael Witt of Eubank. Witt was stopped at a stop sign when his vehicle was struck.
No other injuries were reported among the other vehicle occupants. Toxicology results for Collett and Witt are pending.
The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police
