LEXINGTON, Ky. – With rising costs, imagine not having to pay for groceries for an entire year. That dream will become a reality for one Kentucky Blood Center donor just by donating blood.
KBC’s Summer of Saving will conclude in August with a grand prize giveaway of free groceries for a year. One lucky donor who gives blood Aug. 1–31 will win 52 $200 gift cards to Kroger (or a grocery store determined by KBC in the donor’s area). Donors at this upcoming drive in your community will be entered into the giveaway. Rules and conditions can be found at kybloodcenter.org/events/summer-of-saving-win-free-groceries-for-a-year.
All donors will receive a “Stay Peachy” T-shirt (while supplies last). One donor will win a $100 gift card sponsored by Bobby Dunbar, Russell County jailer.

Please note: Online appointments and reminders (emails and texts) are shown and made in EST. For example, if you make an appointment online for 2 p.m., please arrive at the blood drive at 1 p.m. CST.
Blood donations historically dwindle during the summer because of warm-weather activities, family vacations and no school. The need for blood doesn’t take a break, however, and transfusion levels often increase as donation frequency decreases.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good general health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found at kybloodcenter.org.
Appointments are preferred but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule a donation, visit kybloodcenter.org or call 800.775.2522.
