Earlier this week at the Russell County Fiscal Court meeting, the court voted to have County Attorney Kevin Shearer draft an ordinance that would transition the Russell County Sheriff’s Office to a fee pool system.
Under a fee pooling system, all revenues generated by the sheriff’s office are turned over to the county treasurer who pays expenses and invoices for the sheriff’s office upon approval by the fiscal court. Around 30 counties in Kentucky utilize that type of system.
Judge Executive Randy Marcum was a guest on Community Conversation on WJRS yesterday. He said moving to a fee pool system is nothing personal toward Sheriff Derek Polston or the staff at the sheriff’s office, and is more so about transparency.
A first reading of the ordinance is expected to take place at next month’s fiscal court meeting, scheduled for Monday, Sept. 8.
