Columbia to consider moratorium on data centers

The City of Columbia is set to consider a moratorium on data centers within the city limits.

The Columbia Planning and Zoning Commission will meet today to discuss a possible moratorium, with the city council to meet in special session later in the day with a possible moratorium on the agenda.

A moratorium essentially serves as a “pause button.” It would temporarily prevent any activity on a potential data center. Columbia officials have said there are currently no proposals for a data center within the city.
