The Columbia City Council met in special session yesterday, tabling a recommendation from the city’s planning and zoning commission to implement a moratorium on any construction of a data center within the city limits.
The city’s planning and zoning commission met yesterday morning for about 15 minutes, and recommended a two-year moratorium on the construction of data centers. However, the city council opted to table the issue for a later meeting, and the planning and zoning commission is expected to meet again within the next week or so.
Adair County Magistrate and Republican nominee for County Judge-Executive Chris Reeder said yesterday the Adair County Fiscal Court is expected to discuss a possible moratorium for the county at its meeting next week.
A moratorium essentially serves as a “pause button.” It would temporarily prevent any activity on a potential data center. Columbia officials have said there are currently no proposals for a data center within the city.
