The Russell Springs City Council could soon adopt an ordinance like the one passed by the fiscal court, allowing special-purpose vehicles to be operated on city streets.
The council held the first reading of an ordinance last week that mirrors the fiscal court ordinance regarding special-purpose vehicles like side-by-sides.
The same rules would apply for these vehicles to be operated on city streets in Russell Springs. The vehicles must be licensed at the county clerk’s office, inspected by the sheriff’s office, and be insured.
Russell Springs Mayor Eddie Thomas said the city wanted to have the same ordinance as the county so the same rules apply regardless if someone is operating one of these vehicles in the city or the county.
A second reading and vote on the ordinance is expected at next month’s city council meeting.
The council is scheduled to meet again on Thursday, November 13 at 6 p.m.
