From Russell County Animal Welfare League
Operation PAWSitive Change Raising $10k in October
(Russell Springs, Ky.) The Russell County Animal Welfare League is going from wheels to walls and is asking for the community’s help in raising $10,000 as it opens a permanent, indoor, low-cost spay/neuter clinic.
Since the league began operating a seasonal, mobile spay/neuter clinic in March 2023, more than 1,000 dogs and cats have been spayed/neutered and vaccinated.
“With a permanent, indoor clinic, we can operate year-round and help more animals,” League President Connie Foster said.
“The indoor clinic is ready for its first patient,” League Vice President Dori McCalvin said, “and now we’re working on paying for the equipment that was necessary to go from wheels to walls.”
Operation PAWSitive Change is seeking to raise that money by the end of October. There are ways to help that fit every budget. From $5 Fix-It-Fridays to the opportunity to “Join the Pack” as a Clinic Champion at $1,000 or more, details about all fundraising levels can be found at russellcountykyanimalwelfare.com/change.
In addition to cash donations, supporters can sing for spay/neuter and even win their own karaoke machine in the process.
The league will hold a ribbon cutting at the clinic, inside the DAV building at 155 Owenstown School Road at 6 pm on Saturday, October 18. Immediately following the ribbon cutting, a karaoke celebration will begin at Java Springs. Karaoke performers will sing for “tips” and those “tips” will help us meet the Operation PAWSitive Change goal. The performer who earns the most tips for the new spay/neuter clinic will receive their very own karaoke machine, donated by Java Springs.
Supporters can also remember or honor a loved one on the Paw Wall for a suggested donation of $5. Local artists and craftspeople are asked to consider donating an item for the upcoming silent auction, and an animal photo contest will begin accepting entries on October 10.
The Animal Welfare League will be holding clinics in October and November. Pet guardians can register for appointments on the website. Additionally, Jamestown and Russell Springs have provided funding to assist city residents in spay/neuter services for their pets and the league will begin making these grants available to those living in the Jamestown and Russell Springs City limits available for the November clinic.
