Laker, Lady Laker Soccer teams win 16th District championships

The Russell County Laker and Lady Laker Soccer teams are once again 16th District champions.

That’s 5 consecutive district titles for the Lakers and 4 for the Lady Lakers.

The Lady Lakers defeated the Monroe County Lady Falcons 5-1 in Saturday’s district championship. Addison Coffey and Adriana Thomas each scored a pair of goals, and Jayde Lawless added another for Russell County.

The Lady Lakers combined for 11 saves, with 5 by Jasmine Bennett and 6 by Liz Evans.

In the boys game, the Lakers defeated the Clinton County Bulldogs 6-0 to claim the district title.

Andre Perez scored a pair of goals for the Lakers. Yahir Reyes, Sebastian Betts-Jimenez, Jose Lopez, and Kelvin Cordova each scored a goal as well.

Betts-Jimenez had 2 assists. Alex Gomez, Carlos Lopez, Luis Lopez, and Giovanni Gomez each had an assist as well.

The Lakers combined for 6 saves, with 3 each by Xavion Russell and Ethan Schuning.

Now, the teams prepare for the 4th Region Tournament.
