Transportation Cabinet hoping to have Fishing Creek Bridge lanes reopened by end of month

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says it is hoping to have the westbound lanes on Fishing Creek Bridge on the Cumberland Parkway reopened by the end of the month.

The cabinet said they are targeting August 30 as an estimated completion date, but that could change due to multiple factors.

The westbound lanes were closed last week following a routine inspection that revealed damage to the bridge deck. Engineers conducted a full inspection of the bridge and found no issues on the eastbound bridge, and those lanes remain open.

The cabinet has secured a contractor to repair the bridge, and crews are working to obtain proper materials for the repair project.

The cabinet said engineers looked into building a temporary median crossover to shift westbound traffic into the eastbound lanes, but didn’t believe it was practical due to the short timeline of full repairs.

Motorists should continue using Kentucky 80 as the designated detour route.
