Russell Springs gives initial approval to new comprehensive plan

The Russell Springs City Council gave initial approval to the city’s comprehensive planning and zoning plan last week.

Lou Ann Flanagan with the city’s planning and zoning commission presented it to the council at last week’s meeting. The plan includes goals and objective for the planning and zoning.

The plan outlines strategies for community development, economic development, and quality of life.

Mayor Eddie Thomas said the city hasn’t approved a comprehensive plan in about 12 years, so this has been long overdue.

The Lake Cumberland Area Development District was involved in the creation of the plan. The planning and zoning commission must still have a second reading and vote on the plan.
