Lady Laker Soccer opens season with back-to-back shutout wins

The Russell County Lady Laker Soccer team opened up its season with back-to-back shutout victories on the road.

The Lady Lakers went to McCreary County on Friday, coming away with an 8-0 win.

Adriana Thomas led Russell County, scoring five goals. Addison Coffey, Jayde Lawless, and Maddie Bennett each scored a goal in the win. Madison Weisbrodt, Gracie Burke, and Coffey each finished with an assist, and Jasmine Bennett finished with one save as goalkeeper.

The Lady Lakers were back in action on Saturday, defeating South Laurel by a score of 8-0.

Coffey led Russell County with 4 goals in the victory, followed by Thomas with 3. Jayde Lawless also added a goal for the Lady Lakers.

Weisbrodt finished with 3 assists on the day, and Coffey and Lawless each added an assist as well.

Liz Evans had 5 saves as goalkeeper.

The JV team came up short against South Laurel by a score of 4-2. Ava McFarland and Mercedez Sanchez each finished with a goal and Andrea Hernandez had 5 saves.

The Lady Lakers are back in action today, taking on Boyle County at home. That game gets underway at 5:30 this evening.
