Russell County students have been back in the classroom for a week now, and buses have been back on roadways across the county and across school campuses.
Last week, there was an incident where a driver passed a school bus with the stop arm out. State law says drivers traveling either direction must stop when a bus is stopped in the roadway with the stop arm out.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford discussed the incident more and reminds drivers that the law applies on Highway 127, even where a turning lane exists, as well as on school campuses.
Individuals found to be guilty of illegally passing a bus are subject to fines and/or jail time, according to state law.
