McGowan strike out 10 as Lakers defeat Lincoln County

It was a big night for Russell County senior Ayden McGowan, as he struck out 10 batters to lead Russell County to a 5-1 victory over Lincoln County in the 2A section semifinals last night.

McGowan gave up just five hits and one run over six innings of work on the mound in the victory.

At the plate, Mayes Gosser led Russell County with a pair of hits and an RBI. Carter Stapp, Tanner Stringer, and Walker Stephens each drove in a run as well.

Parker Riggins pitched the final inning to earn the save, striking out 2 of the final 3 batters.

The Lakers now advance to the 2A sectional championship tomorrow, where they’ll take on Taylor County. The game will take place at Casey County, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m.
