Russell Springs man arrested on sexual abuse charges

A Russell Springs man was arrested Thursday on sexual abuse charges involving a child under the age of 12.

According to reports, 34-year-old Shawn A. Whalen was arrested by the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and charged with sexual abuse first degree with a victim under the age of 12, another charge of sexual abuse first degree, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Whalen was arrested by Deputy Dustin Bunch with the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and lodged in the Russell County Detention Center.
