Lakers defeat Wayne County in 6 innings

The Russell County Laker Baseball team picked up a big win over Wayne County last night, coming out victorious by a score of 12-2 in 6 innings.

The Cardinals gained an early 1-0 advantage in the 1st inning, but the Lakers scored 4 in the 3rd inning and 4 more in the 4th to gain a commanding lead.

The Lakers held a 10-2 lead entering the bottom of the 6th, and a Mayes Gosser triple scored 2 runs in the 6th to end the game early with a 10-run advantage.

The Lakers finished with 11 hits on the night, as Gosser, Trace Stringer, Adam Walters, Carter Stapp, and Owen Loy each finished with a pair of hatstand Walker Stephens added another.

Stapp and Loy drove in 3 runs each, and Stephens, Gosser, and Ayden McGowan each drove in a pair of runs.

Lincoln Helm got the start on the mound for Russell County, pitching the complete game while giving up just 4 hits and 2 runs (1 earned), while striking out 5.

The Lakers are now 4-1 to start the season.
