Laker Baseball defeats Monroe County in 5 innings

The Laker Baseball team picked up its first district win of the season last night, defeating the Monroe County Falcons 11-1 in 5 innings.

The Lakers finished with two hits in the game, but were aided by several miscues from the Falcons, as the Lakers drew 11 walks in the game and the Falcons committed 4 errors.

Trace Stringer and Walker Stephens had the two hits for Russell County, both doubles. Stringer drove in 4 runs in the game, as his bases loaded double in the bottom of the 4th scored 3 runs to accompany a sacrifice fly earlier in the game.

Stephens and Alden Brumley each drove in a run for the Lakers as well.

Stringer earned the win on the mound, giving up three hits and just one run (unearned) over 5 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 2.

The Lakers and Falcons won’t have to wait long to meet again, as the Lakers are scheduled to go on the road to Tompkinsville Thursday for the second matchup of the season between the two district rivals.

The Laker JV team also picked up a 10-0 win over the Falcons last night.

Ben Kemp had a key triple for the Lakers as he and Walker Stephens each drove in two runs, and Alden Brumley drove in another.

Mason Jasper got the win on the mound, pitching three shutout innings and giving up just one hit and one walk, while striking out 5.
