Lady Lakers rally to defeat Wayne County

The Russell County Lady Laker Softball team trailed by as many as 7 runs, but managed to rally late to pick up an 11-9 victory over Wayne County last night.

The Lady Lakers fell into an early hole, trailing 4-1 at the end of the first inning and 9-2 at the end of 4 innings.

However, the Lady Lakers would hold Wayne County scoreless the rest of the game, and scored 6 runs in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th to rally for the win.

Three Lady Lakers hit home runs in the game, with Nevaeh Duncan, Brylie Hardwick, and Rylen McGowan each sending one over the fence.

It was home run #4 for Hardwick on the season, #2 for McGowan, and the first of the season for Duncan.

McGowan and Duncan each finished with 3 hits on the night, and Hardwick had 2.

Hardwick, McGowan, Audrie Roy, and Mallie McQueary each drove in a pair of runs, and Duncan and Avery Hart each drove in a run.

Hardwick earned the win pitching, entering in relief to pitch 4 innings and giving up 4 hits and 1 run (unearned), striking out 5.

The Lady Lakers are now 4-3 on the season, and will be back in action today, going on the road to Southwestern beginning at 5 p.m.
