Quarles announces candidacy for governor

Dr. Ryan Quarles, the state’s agriculture commissioner, announced over the weekend that he was entering the 2023 governor’s race, which could become crowded as more members of the GOP ponder whether or not to run against Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear for the state’s highest office.

Last year, State Auditor Mike Harmon said he would also seek the Republican nomination for governor.

Several other Republicans, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations Kelly Craft, Attorney General Daniel Cameron, state Senators  Max Wise and Ralph Alvarado, state Rep. Savannah Maddox and Somerset Mayor Alan Keck have all shown interest in running, per reports.
