Lawson, Roy homer as Laker Baseball wins big on Senior Night

Nathan Lawson celebrates with teammates after a second-inning grand slam in Russell County’s 13-0 win over Clinton County.

On Senior Night for nine Laker Seniors, Russell County put together a dominant win over district rival Clinton County.

The Lakers scored nine runs in the first two innings before a lightning and rain delay paused play for about an hour and a half.

The Lakers picked up right where they left off, and came away with a 13-0 win over the Bulldogs.

It was a big night for senior Nathan Lawson, who hit two home runs in each of his first two at-bats. The first was a two-run homerun in the first inning, followed by a grand slam in the second. Lawson finished with 6 RBI on the night.

Lawson also got the nod on the mound, and went the complete game, pitching five shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out 13 of 20 batters.

Senior Issac Roy also hit a home run in the game, a solo home run that immediately followed Lawson’s second-inning grand slam.

Trace Stringer drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers, and Aidan Antle, Evan Hammond, and Maxon Gosser each drove in a run as well.

The Lakers improved to 19-4 and 5-1 in district play with the win.
