County approves working budget for next fiscal year

The Russell County Fiscal Court approved its working budget for the upcoming fiscal year at Monday’s meeting of the fiscal court.

The $15 million budget was approved by the court, and Judge Executive Gary Robertson applauded the work of all involved, noting that the department of local government said Russell County’s working budget was one of the first ones sent in to be approved by DLG.

Typically, the county’s budget is smaller than that, but Robertson noted two significant changes in this budget. That includes $2.6 million granted to the county for the airport project and American Rescue Plan Act federal funds totaling nearly $3 million.

The county will be working with a general fund of around $3.68 million, a road fund of around $1.67 million, and a jail fund of around $2.65 million.

The county also will have an Alcoholic Beverage Control fund of just over $140 thousand.
