Columbia man arrested after hit-and-run with school bus

The Columbia Police Department responded to a hit and run on Burksville Street on Wednesday after the operator of a gold Buick struck a school bus and fled the scene.

An investigation led to a Columbia man being arrested and facing multiple charges in the incident.

Christopher Furkins, 27, of Columbia has been charged with numerous traffic violations as well as DUI 1st aggravated circumstances, criminal mischief 2nd, tampering with physical evidence, possession of methamphetamine, leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, and 26 counts of wanton endangerment totaling 28 felony charges altogether.

Officers were able to identify Furkins and located him near his residence on Westwood Drive, less than a mile from the collision.

After locating and establishing contact, Furkins reportedly attempted to conceal a small bag believed to contain methamphetamine before being taken into custody.

Officer Josh Durbin was the arresting Officer. He was assisted on scene by Sgt Evan Burton and Chief Jr Murphy.
