Russell County had one of state’s largest decreases in unemployment last year

Russell County had one of the largest decreases in unemployment from 2020 to 2021, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.

Russell County had a decrease of 2.6 percent, from 8 percent in 2020 to 5.4 percent in 2021.

That was the 5th largest decrease among Kentucky’s 120 counties.

However, Russell County had one of the highest unemployment rates in the Lake Cumberland region last year.

According to the report, Russell County’s unemployment rate was only behind McCreary County in the Lake Cumberland District, which came in at 5.7 percent.
