An Adair County woman with several Russell County ties passed away following a forklift accident yesterday.
The Adair County Sheriff’s Office reported that 56-year-old Charlene Cowan, the owner of Local Pallet Wholesale in Adair County, was involved in a forklift accident on Scott Dial Road off Highway 55 in Adair County yesterday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, first responders were called to the scene at around 10:15 yesterday morning and found Cowan pinned underneath the forklift.
C0wan was reportedly loading a tractor trailer with pallets, when she dropped off in a hole while backing the forklift up. The forklift then started to turn over, and Cowan attempted to jump off, but was unable to clear herself free and was struck by the forklift, ultimately pinning her underneath it.
First responders and bystanders from businesses nearby worked to get her free from the fork lift and EMS provided care.
Cowan was taken to TJ Health Columbia, where she was pronounced deceased.
