Gene Wayne Barnes, of Russell Springs, passed away on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Russell County Hospital. He was 78 years of age.
Gene was born on April 9, 1943, in Russell County, son of the late Joseph B. and Dollie Mae Wilson Barnes. He married Joyce Kilpatrick on December 20, 1961. Gene was owner and operator of Russell Springs Milling Company for over 60 years. He was a member of Russell Springs Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his son, Ricky (and Sherri) Barnes, of Russell Springs; and his three grandchildren, Joseph Trevor Barnes (and Kirsten Haste), Nicholas Wayne Barnes (and Chandra), and Kaitlyn McQueary (and Dylan).
Along with his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his brothers, William “Billy” Barnes and Joseph McDowell Barnes.
Funeral services are 3:00 p.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, at Russell Springs Christian Church, with Bro. Carroll Egnew and Bro. Don Emerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Springs City Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at the church, until time for services.
