Local Resident Files for State Representative

A Russell County resident is the first person to file for State Representative for next year’s elections.     Josh Branscum of Russell Springs filed his papers earlier today with the Secretary of State, officially becoming a candidate for State Representative in the 83rd district, which is comprised of Russell, Clinton, Cumberland and a portion of Pulaski County.

Jamestown attorney Jeff Hoover has served as State Representative in the district for the past 24 years, but announced in September he would not seek re-election next year. Branscum is making his first run for political office. His wife, Kara, is a teacher in the local school district, and they are the parents of two children. Branscum is a graduate of Georgetown College and is employed by Branscum Construction Company in Russell Springs. WJRS News has learned of other persons considering the race as well. The filing deadline for the May primary is January 10th.
