WJRS news received word from H M Bottom early this morning that two bodies were recovered from Lake Cumberland around 2:15 this morning by search and rescue teams.
State Fish and Wildlife officers were first notified of the incident Friday afternoon around 4 o’clock. The pair had been swimming near what is called Low Gap Island, between Jamestown Marina and Wolf Creek Dam, when their boat began drifting away. The men began swimming to shore but were unable to make it.
Neither was apparently wearing a life jacket.
Search and rescue efforts began Friday afternoon by the Russell County Search and Rescue Squad. The local squad was joined Saturday and yesterday by five other squads from around the state in searching for the missing men.
Bottom said the bodies of the two men were turned over to County Coroner Mark Coots for positive identification. WJRS NEWS will continue to follow this story and will have more details as soon as they are available
