Employee recognition, district finances, and upcoming educational events were among the topics discussed during Monday evening’s regular meeting of the Russell County Board of Education.
Amber Humble, a first-grade teacher at Salem Elementary School, was recognized as the Russell County Education Association’s Certified Employee of the Month. Superintendent Michael Ford presented Humble with a certificate and highlighted several of her accomplishments both inside and outside the classroom.
During the meeting, School Finance Director Marla Carnes presented the district’s monthly financial report, which included September’s receipts, expenditures, and account balances. Carnes reported that all accounts had been reconciled and the district currently has approximately $12.7 million in cash on hand.
Ford also announced that the Kentucky Department of Education’s Regional Learner Network will meet Tuesday and Wednesday at The Green at the Russell County Public Library in Jamestown. The event will bring together administrators and educators from across south-central Kentucky to discuss innovative teaching practices, engaging learning experiences, and ways to measure student success beyond traditional test scores. Participants will also tour the SEED Academy on Wednesday.
Additionally, Russell County Schools will host the Kentucky Association of School Councils’ Vibrant Learning Networking Event on Tuesday, November 3, at the district’s Auditorium and Natatorium Complex.
Board members also scheduled a special called meeting for Friday, November 13. During that meeting, principals from all five Russell County schools will present their schools’ 2025–2026 Assessment and Accountability Results, which were released last week.
