Cardinals Defeat Lakers 34–6 at Finley Field

The Russell County Lakers fell to the Taylor County Cardinals 34–6 Friday night at Finley Field in Russell Springs.

Taylor County controlled the game offensively, finishing with 394 total yards. The Cardinals rushed 37 times for 241 yards, led by Jace Anderson with 83 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries.

Cardinals quarterback Zach Benedict completed 13 of 15 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Jaelin Anderson was his leading receiver, catching 10 passes for 90 yards and two scores.

Russell County finished with 170 yards of total offense, including 86 yards rushing and 84 yards passing.

Tanner Stringer led the Lakers on the ground with 57 yards and the team’s only touchdown on 15 carries.

Russell County quarterback Parker Brumley completed 11 of 23 passes for 78 yards. Myles Davis led the Laker receiving corps with five catches for 44 yards.

Both teams were penalized four times for 45 yards.

The victory improved Taylor County’s record to 3-and-2, while Russell County fell to 0-and-5 on the season.
