The Russell County Public Library officially opened its newest community space, known as “The Green,” with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.
More than 50 people attended the ceremony, including library board members and employees, local and state elected officials, representatives of the Bank of Jamestown and community members.
The Green is a five-acre expansion located behind the library. The outdoor community space includes the five-thousand-square-foot Bank of Jamestown Pavilion, an inclusive sensory play area for children of all abilities, an amphitheater, a scenic walking path, site-wide Wi-Fi and spaces for reading, recreation and community gatherings.
The project was funded in part through a three-million-dollar appropriation in Kentucky’s 2024 state budget. The Bank of Jamestown made a major community investment in the pavilion, while additional support came from the Woodland Farm Foundation.
The public grand-opening celebration will be held Saturday. Activities begin with a character meet-and-greet from noon until two, followed by Yoga at The Green at 1:15 and a foam party from two until four.
The celebration concludes at seven Saturday evening with “Sips and Sounds,” featuring live jazz by the Somerset Big Band Combo and handcrafted alcohol-free drinks.
All activities are open to the public at The Green at the Russell County Public Library in Jamestown.
