Near-Zero Visibility Leads to Crashes, Long Delays Monday Morning

Dense fog brought near-zero visibility to northern Jamestown Monday morning, contributing to four separate wrecks and disrupting the morning commute for more than two hours.

The first crash was reported at 7:13 a.m. Two of the wrecks happened almost back-to-back in the area of Jamestown Healthcare and the intersection of the U.S. 127 bypass and North Main Street.

As many as three people were injured and taken to Russell County Hospital for treatment and observation.

Jamestown Police and Fire, Russell County EMS, the Russell County Sheriff’s Office and Russell Springs Police responded, assisting with crash investigations, emergency care and traffic control.

Traffic was halted for an extended period because of the crash scenes and extremely limited visibility. Some local businesses and government offices delayed opening.

The National Weather Service office in Louisville told WJRS NEWS its satellite imagery showed “river valley fog” covering much of the area.

The final crash scene was cleared at 9:19 a.m.
