Jamestown city employees’ commitment to workplace safety earned the city a financial return during Thursday night’s meeting of the Jamestown City Council.
Steven Hill with McKinney and Blair Insurance presented city leaders with a dividend check totaling just over $5,000 from Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance, better known as KEMI.
Hill, who serves as the city’s KEMI insurance agent, said the dividend reflects the safe and efficient manner in which city employees perform their duties and work to prevent job-related injuries.
In other business, City Clerk Tyler McGowan conducted the first reading of an ordinance establishing the city’s property tax rate.

Hinton also updated the council on several upcoming community events. Fall decorations will soon be displayed around the city, followed by decorations for Halloween.
Jamestown’s annual Trunk or Treat event will be held Saturday evening, October 31st. Hinton extended an open invitation for local residents and businesses to participate.
Before then, the band Exit 62 will perform a free concert next Friday night, September 25th, at Beck Park.
The city’s annual Christmas on the Square celebration is scheduled for Saturday night, December 5th.
The event will feature live music, retail and food booths, and carriage rides.
