Last week, WJRS NEWS brought you the first part of our special report on the $7.4 million renovation project underway at Lake Cumberland State Resort Park.
In today’s second and final report, we continue our conversation with Park Manager Stephen Eastin, who has led operations at the park for the past 11 years.
Eastin says when the project is completed early next year, Lake Cumberland State Resort Park will be the freshest and most modern of Kentucky’s 17 state resort parks. He says visitors will be amazed by the completely transformed look of Lure Lodge and its guest rooms.
Eastin also believes the renovated conference center—with its updated technology, expanded amenities, and central location—will attract more conferences, weddings, family reunions, and other special events, providing an economic boost for the region.
Work is also continuing on the park’s original Pumpkin Creek Lodge, which has been closed for the past four years. The historic lodge suffered extensive damage after extreme cold weather caused most of its plumbing to burst, and while repairs were underway, a second severe weather event caused additional damage.
While the buildings may soon have a completely new look, Eastin says one thing will remain the same—the dedicated employees who welcome visitors each day. He says it’s the staff that truly makes Lake Cumberland State Resort Park feel like home for the tens of thousands of guests who visit the park each year.
