$20 Million Available for Police Communications Upgrades

Local police departments across Southern and Eastern Kentucky will have an opportunity to apply for federal funding to upgrade communications equipment.

Congressman Hal Rogers says he secured 20 million dollars in Community Project Funding exclusively for police departments in Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District, which includes 33 counties, including Pulaski and Wayne counties. The funding was signed into law by President Donald Trump in February.

The Center for Rural Development held an informational session Monday to explain how law enforcement agencies can apply for the funding.

Rogers says the initiative is focused on improving police communications equipment, noting that every second counts during an emergency.
