The Russell County Fiscal Court will receive more than $1 million in state funding for county road resurfacing projects that are expected to begin within the next month.
Under an agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the county will receive up to $1,049,000 to resurface all or portions of 12 county roads, totaling nearly 14 miles of blacktopping.
County Judge-Executive Randy Marcum says the funding represents a significant investment in Russell County’s transportation infrastructure.
The resurfacing projects include work on West Sulphur Creek Road, South Todd Road, Half Acre Road, Beech Ridge Road, Pumpkin Creek Road, Decatur Road, Armilous Road, Sugar 2 Road, Bates Road, East West Wilson Road, Lakeway Hills, and two sections of Ramsey Creek Road.
The Transportation Cabinet says the project is designed to improve the reliability of the county’s highway network while enhancing safety for motorists.
Judge Marcum says the state used a grading system to prioritize road improvement requests, and Russell County’s highest-priority roads qualified for funding.
Any project costs exceeding the state’s $1,049,000 contribution will be the responsibility of the Russell County Fiscal Court. The agreement also requires the county to ensure proper culverts or road tiles are installed for any new road entrances that affect drainage along the resurfaced roadways.
