A major infrastructure investment is headed to Casey County.
State Senator Brandon Storm and State Representative Daniel Elliott traveled to Liberty Monday evening to present a check for more than $12.5 million to the City of Liberty for improvements to the Liberty Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The funding totals $12,563,000 and is part of Kentucky’s WWATERS Program, administered through the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority. The program was established to help communities address critical water and wastewater infrastructure needs across the Commonwealth. State lawmakers approved the funding earlier this year through House Joint Resolution 81, which authorized more than $52 million in water and wastewater projects statewide.
According to state officials, the Liberty project is one of the largest individual awards included in the latest round of funding and will be used to improve the city’s wastewater treatment facilities. The investment is expected to help ensure reliable service, support future growth, and address long-term infrastructure needs in the community.
Storm said investing in critical infrastructure projects that address public water and wastewater challenges remains a top priority and thanked the many local and state leaders who worked to secure the funding.
The WWATERS Program was created by the General Assembly to provide financial assistance for public water and wastewater systems throughout Kentucky, particularly in communities facing infrastructure challenges. The Kentucky Infrastructure Authority oversees the program and works with local governments to fund needed improvements.
Construction timelines for the Liberty Wastewater Treatment Plant improvements have not yet been announced.
