Recent rainfall provided some relief to local drought conditions.
However the U.S. Drought Monitor still lists a portion of Russell County as being in extreme drought with the remainder of the county being upgraded to severe drought.
The local mesonet station in the Ono community has recorded a little over 2.6 inches of rain over the course of the past seven days. Rainfall amounts have varied across the county.
The local mesonet station has recorded just over 4.4 inches of rain during the month of May. That’s compared to almost 6.5 inches last year, and a little over 10.6 inches in May 2024.
Looking at surrounding counties, Casey County remains entirely in the extreme drought category and a portion of Pulaski County remains in extreme drought. The remainder of the area is in the severe drought category.
