A Russell County High School alumnus was recently the recipient of a prestigious national teaching award.
Sydney Newton, a 2012 graduate of Russell County High School, was honored yesterday as a recipient of the Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award.
The award is hailed as “The Oscars of Teaching” and recognizes teachers across the United States. Only 64 teachers from Kentucky have received the award since 1993.
Newton serves as an english-language arts teacher at Taylor County High School. She’s also a member of the school’s site-based decision making council, a new teacher mentor, and numerous other roles.
She will be recognized at the Milken Educator Awards Forum in Washington, D.C in June.
