RCHS earns yellow rating in last year’s state assessment

Russell County High School received a yellow rating based on scores from last year’s state assessments. 

A yellow rating is the middle rating of five categories. 

47 percent of Russell County High school students earned proficient or distinguished in the math section of the test, 7 percent higher than state average. 39 percent earned proficient or distinguished in social studies, which was one percent higher than state average. 49 percent earned proficient or distinguished in combined writing, which was 6 percent higher than state average. 

On the reading section, 44 percent earned proficient or distinguished, which was two percent lower than state average. 

In science, 21 percent earned proficient or distinguished, which was equal to state average. 

On the ACT, Russell County High School students had an average composite score of 18, just below the state average of 18.1. 

Russell County High School earned green ratings for graduation indicator and postsecondary readiness. Green is the second-highest rating a school can receive from the state.
