The City of Liberty is continuing to urge residents to conserve water as emergency efforts to restore Lake Liberty remain underway.
The pipeline pumping water from the Green River into Lake Liberty continues to operate as planned and has become a key part of stabilizing the city’s water supply while the lake recovers.
City Communications and Social Media Manager Felicia Whitis said the pumping operation is making a noticeable impact, and while routine adjustments have been needed, the system continues to perform well and provide the additional water the community needs.
Despite the progress, officials remain concerned that some customers may be easing up on their water conservation efforts before the crisis is over.
Whitis says increased water usage now could slow the lake’s recovery and potentially prolong the emergency measures currently in place.
The city says there is a long-term goal before conservation restrictions can be relaxed.
Whitis says the objective is to restore Lake Liberty to a level where it can consistently meet the community’s water demands without relying on emergency pumping from the Green River.
She says residents have played a major role in the progress made so far and is asking everyone to continue doing their part.
City officials say every gallon of water saved helps move the community closer to ending the water emergency.
