Russell County Schools earn high marks on school climate and safety survey

The release of state assessment results for Russell County Schools also included results from a student survey about school climate and safety.

Russell County Schools earned high marks in the school climate and safety survey, with each of the schools earning a green rating with the exception of Salem Elementary, which earned a yellow rating.

Russell Springs Elementary earned the highest score at 81.2, followed by Jamestown Elementary at 80.9, Salem Elementary at 76.3, Russell County Middle School at 70.4 and Russell County High School at 67.9.

In the high school survey, 96 percent of students agreed there is at least one adult who listens when they have something to say, and 93 percent agree that teachers expect students to do their best all the time.

The high school survey also showed that nearly 60 percent of students believe internet bullying is a problem at the school.

In the middle school survey, 97 percent said teachers expect students to do their best all the time and 94 percent said there is an adult they can talk to if they have a problem.

44 percent of middle school students said internet bullying is a problem for students at the school.

In the elementary survey, 99 percent of students across the elementary schools said adults work hard to make sure students are safe and 97 percent said teachers expect students to do their best.

57 percent of elementary students responded that students being mean or hurtful to other students is a problem for their school.
