WJRS News recently sat down with four students from the Russell County High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp to talk about what the program means to them.
The program institutes the values of the United States Navy: Honor, Courage, and Commitment. While those values remain at the core, for student Mollie Evans, it also provides a family atmosphere and a place she feels at home. Evans is one of the youngest cadets in the NJROTC program and said she’s developed valuable friendships through the program.
For student Jed Newcom, the NJROTC program has provided leadership skills and has boosted his self-esteem.
Stay tuned to WJRS News tomorrow for more from another pair of students within the program about how valuable NJROTC has been to them.
