The Hoover Family was honored with one of the highest recognitions in Kentucky broadcasting this past weekend, as the Kentucky Broadcasters Association inducted the Hoover family into the Kentucky Broadcasters Mic Hall of Fame.
The award recognizes the Hoover family’s decades of service through radio and their impact on Russell and surrounding counties.
Welby Hoover began WJRS in September 1966, nearly 60 years ago.
This is the first time the award has been presented to a family. Typically, this award is presented to individuals, with the likes of Bill Bryant, Tom Leach, Jim Host, Cawood Ledford, and others among the past recipients.
Chris Winkle, President and CEO of the Kentucky Broadcasters Association, said the Hoover Family, beginning with Welby and Mae, has served the community for generations by way of local radio.

The Hoover family was recognized along with Chris Allen from WNKY-TV, Nancy Cox from WLEX-TV, and Jeff Nalley from Cromwell Ag Network.
