In front of a standing-room only crowd last night filled with members of the Russell County Laker Band, parents, alumni and supporters, the Russell County Board of Education approved plans to move forward with a new practice area for the band.
The new practice area would take the place of the old tennis courts, and include a new observation tower along with a resurfaced space that would be painted green and marked like a football field.
Russell County Schools Superintendent Michael Ford said the project is an investment into the band program, which has a lot of community support.
Laker Band Director Curtis Ervin spoke to the board and said the new practice area will make a difference for band students for years to come.
The board voted unanimously in favor of moving forward with the project.
