The Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery is once again preparing to honor America’s injured veterans through one of its most meaningful annual traditions.
The 13th Annual Wounded Warriors Fishing Event is scheduled for September 9, and organizers are inviting wounded veterans from across the region to register for the free day of fishing, food, and fellowship.
Environmental Education and Outreach Specialist Marsha Hart says the event has become one of her favorite days of the year, adding that everyone at Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery is passionate about giving back to those who have sacrificed so much in service to the nation.
The day begins bright and early at 5:00 a.m., when participants head out on Lake Cumberland for a guided striper fishing trip. Local fishing guides generously donate their boats, equipment, and time to make the experience possible.
After returning from the lake, veterans enjoy lunch, a special recognition ceremony, and receive a commemorative gift before spending the afternoon trout fishing on the Cumberland River.
Hart says the event is about much more than fishing. She encourages any wounded warrior to sign up, noting the day has become an opportunity for veterans to reconnect, build friendships, and share stories of their military service with others who understand their experiences.
Registration is open through the end of August, and Hart says signing up is quick and easy.
Hart also says volunteers are always welcome. Community members can help serve meals, assist veterans while trout fishing, and support the day’s activities.
