A countywide burn ban is now in effect in Russell County due to extremely dry conditions.
Russell County Judge-Executive Randy Marcum issued an executive order Friday prohibiting all open burning throughout the county, effective immediately.
Under the order, no person is permitted to start or maintain an open fire anywhere in Russell County while the ban is in effect.
Those who violate the order could face fines and penalties.
The burn ban will remain in effect until further notice.
