Local gas prices are below state average headed into Memorial Day weekend.
The average price of gas in Russell County comes in at around $2.75, while the state average is 10 cents higher at $2.85.
Prices are lower than most neighboring counties. Wayne County has the highest prices in the area at almost $2.95. Only Adair County comes in lower than Russell, but only by a small margin at about 2 cents.
Average prices statewide around this time last year were about 50 cents per gallon higher.
