The Russell County Laker Baseball team defeated Metcalfe County in the 16th District Tournament last night by a score of 10-0.
Carter Stapp led the Lakers offensively with a 3 hit, 2 RBI performance. Mayes Gosser also finished with a pair of hits, driving in 2 runs. Ayden McGowan drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers as well.
Owen Loy picked up the win on the mound, pitching 5 shutout innings while giving up just 2 hits and striking out 4 batters.
The Lakers are scheduled to take on the host Monroe County tonight, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30.
The Lady Laker Softball team dropped a heartbreaker to Cumberland County in the district tournament last night, as the Lady Panthers won in walk-off fashion in the 7th inning by a score of 5-4.
Addy Abrell and Camdin Cooper each finished with a pair of hits for Russell County, and Cooper drove in a pair of runs.
The Lady Lakers see their season come to an end with a final record of 13-16 on the year.
