Storm-related death reported over the weekend

A storm-related death was reported over the weekend.

Russell County Coroner Mark Coots said his office responded to State Dock Saturday afternoon after a woman, identified as 93-year-old Debra K. Edelman of Richmond, Indiana, was found deceased.

The coroner’s office said that after power was knocked out in the area due to the storms, Edelman asked a dock neighbor to turn on her generator to restore power. Later that day, Edelman was found unresponsive and not breathing. The coroner’s office said preliminary findings indicate exposure to carbon monoxide as the cause of death.

Edelman was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Frankfort for a more detailed examination.

The death is being investigated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, along with the coroner’s office. The Jamestown Fire Department, Russell County EMS, and personnel from State Dock assisted at the scene.
