The Russell County High School Baseball and Softball teams begin 16th District Tournament play today.
The top-seed Lakers will take on the 4-seed Metcalfe County at 5:30 this evening.
The 3-seed Lady Lakers will take on the 2-seed Cumberland County at 7:30.
This year’s baseball and softball district tournaments are hosted by Monroe County this year.
The district championships will take place tomorrow at Monroe County.
The Russell County Middle School Laker Baseball team advanced to the semifinals of the West Semi-State tournament.
The Lakers defeated LaRue County on Saturday by a score of 14-5.
Aaron McGowan led the Lakers with 3 hits, driving in 2 runs.
Parker Brumley picked up the win pitching, giving up just 1 run on 2 hits over 5 innings and striking out 3.
The Lakers fell to South Warren on Sunday by a score of 13-2.
Raylan McAninch, Will Coffey, and Rylan Long each finished with a hit in the game.
