The Russell County Lakers comeback bid against the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats fell just short as the Lakers season came to an end Monday night by a score of 5-3.
The Lakers scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the 4th inning, as Nick Aaron drove in Austin Harris to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats came back, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning. The Wildcats scored another run in the top of the seventh, taking a 5-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
The Lakers scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to cut the lead to 5-3, and had runners on second and third with two outs, but the Lakers weren’t able to drive in the tying run and saw their season come to an end in the region semifinals.
Nathan Lawson got the start for the Lakers, and carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning before the Wildcats took the lead. Lawson finished the day giving up 4 runs on 4 hits and striking out seven in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Nick Aaron entered in relief, pitching 1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and one run while striking out three.
Aaron finished with two hits and an RBI on the night. Gavin Gossage and Maxon Gosser each finished with one hit and one RBI on the night.
The Lakers finish the season with a final record of 30-7.
